Process and Outcome Goals
I spoke about SMART goals recently which are, if you recall:
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.
We can break down goals further by looking at the end goal (Outcome goal) and our goals which ultimately help us to achieve that end goal (Process goals).
If you want to run a 5k in 29 minutes by the end of September and you have concluded that this outcome goal is SMART, you will also need to set yourself process goals in order to actually achieve it.
1. I will run 5k, at a steady pace, just below VT1, (to be explained in a future post), three times per week.
2. I will run 5k at intervals of VT1 and VT2, once per week.
3. I aim to increase my running pace by no less than 5% and no more than 10% each week.
4. I will work on strength endurance resistance training once per week, at home or in the gym.
Hopefully you can see that using process goals to shape your training will ultimately help you to achieve your outcome goals.
Know your goals, OUTCOME & PROCESS and you will Know Motion.
